Everyday is a special day

Why do we wait for a special day like a birthday, wedding anniverary or perhaps Christmas to give a gift, or say send a card or make that call to acknowledge the occasion. Everyday is a special day. If the sun comes up then be thankful. Even if your back hurts and your knees pop and brushing your teeth does not take as long as it did :), it is still a wonderful day to be alive.

Family and freinds leave this earth too often but their time and your time on earth can be one of joy and happiness. It is an attitude thing. It is also a knowledge that life here on earth is just part of the process. One should live life today as if today is your last day on earth. Preparation for the next day is necessary but the preparation should be one that is full of ways to make tomorrow and even more wonderful day for you and your family and friends than today.

One should not be afraid of tomorrow because one day tomorrow will not come. One should not be afraid of today because it is always today. One should live each day with a peace and understanding that our life is to be lived to its fullest each day and that each day is a special day. And, we should live each day with the peace of knowing that today may be our last day, and that one day, that day, with the true peace it brings, will come.

Can you be Optimistic every day?

I am told one should not ask a question that can be answered with a yes or no if you want discussion. So maybe I should ask, how can one be optimistic each day. First, it is difficult at times. This week we are reminded of the negatives in life when a crowd, in celebrating the notice of the Emancipation of slaves that was delivered 2 years late in Texas during the Civil War, descended upon two men who had accidently hit a 3 year old with their car and beat one of the men to death. Actually it was the passenger who was trying to defent hthe driver. How a crowd that was gathered to celebrate a positive occassion could turn animal like instantly is beyond me. But it did. Not all of course but many within the group. Thinking about these type of happenings really is a negative drawing against the positive in life.

Second, as difficult as it is to always be optimistic, one must practice the art of thinking positive and not dwell on the negative. By thinking positive, you can push away the negative in life. Tis does not mean the negative is gone from situations, it means you can look at the negative in a different view and make a positive from the situation.

The senseless beating death at this celebration of freedom is ironic. The Emancipation Proclaimation afforded freedom to life liberty and the pursuit of happiness and it was being celebrated yet almost caveman like a few ripped apart the meaning of what was being celebrated.

But maybe, just maybe, this incident will provoke conversation that will enable us all to look at the root problem of why it happened and how we can work with society to prevent future incidencenes. I believe that we have a long way to go in the world to have a perfect world and indeed I may not ever see it but at least those of us who believe that life is worth living and worth living with those around us can continue to work side by side in at least if nothing else provide hope and some vision to our youth of a better tomorrow.
